In my high school self paced or “personalized learning” was never really an option for students. Therefore, when I am in school to become a teacher one day, this new topic or form of teaching is very intriguing and I want to make an effort to apply these strategies in my own practice. Nowadays, children, students, teachers, most likely everybody is in some shape or form influenced by social media. Obviously some more than others. Social media can be a tool when teaching and trying to relate to students, growing up I could never relate to my teachers but I feel if I were able too, I would have been a lot more attentative. Although I have little experience in multimedia, I can use my skills and knowledge of social media platforms to my advantage.

Mapping the Route

I want to eventually learn how to apply social media to in class lessons. Looking at the surface level of this idea seems like using instagram posts, TikTok’s, etc, but I feel like there is so much more to social media than just memes, trends, random videos of dogs or sports. I feel like social media has so much more to offer, most people are just on the wrong side of it. I really want to explore how I can apply social media in my own projects. The use of AI is becoming more and more common, learning how to use it appropriately can be a game changer when it comes to making presentations, study guides, overall a helpful tool.

My goals lineup with the course objectives quite well since we will “examine the application of social media to support learning” and “explain personalized learning and its relation to learning theory.” When we touch on the topic of learning how to use “GenAI appropriately as a tool…” I will be able to fine tune my skills on AI and use it more as a support rather than an answer. The course objective I want to circle is the one that mentions using social media as a method of developing a personal and or professional network. As a basketball player, social media is huge when it comes to contracts, brand deals, and fans.

Anticipating Turbulance

When it comes to technology, I am never the person you want to be asking. The most daunting concept or skills for me will be the navigation of technology, websites, and profiles. For me to be able to navigate these challenges, I will need to stay engaged when reading instructions rather than becoming overwhelmed and resorting to the use of AI. Using the assessment rubrics as a guide to see what is being looked for in the assigment and asking questions when I am stuck can be very useful to my understanding and application of concepts. Overall, putting in the time and effort for my goals is what is needed most, the ability to apply my mentioned goals will come with practice and practice will come with frustration and road blocks but how I handle it is how I will learn.
